St. Rose Catholic Church
5961 Franklin Blvd (Corner
of 38th Ave)
Sacramento, CA (916) 421-1414
For
more than a half-century,
Monsignor Edward Kavanagh
has headed St. Rose Parish and
St. Patrick's School and Orphanage
|
Msgr.
Kavanagh was born in 1925 in County Kilkenny in Ireland. He was ordained
on June 6th, 1948
at St. Mary's Cathedral, and in December of that year was sent to
the diocese of Sacramento and
St. Rose's Parish, where he has
been for the past 54 years! |
 |
Msgr.
has been active in the pro-life movement since the 1960s.
His work with orphans and poor children at St. Patrick's Home
has made him even more sensitive to the plight of the most
innocent victims of society--the unborn.
|
|
St.
Rose Parish officially came into existence in 1949.
It was originally the Chapel of St. Patrick's Home for
Children built in 1932 and named in honor of both St.
Rose of Lima and the first Catholic church in Sacramento
(1849).

|
St.
Patrick's School complex was built in 1932 when St.
Patrick's Home orphanage was moved from Grass Valley.
The school portion was opened to the children of South
Sacramento in the 1040's and expanded. The complex
now includes St. Patrick's Home Administrative offices
and Day Care Center.
